(CNN)Chris Cornell's widow disputed an official finding that her rocker husband died by suicide and revealed Friday that he had "taken an extra Ativan or two" shortly before he was found unresponsive.

Vicky Cornell became concerned when her husband, the frontman for Soundgarden and Audioslave, told her by phone about his dose of the prescription sedative, which can be used to treat anxiety, she told CNN in a statement. They spoke shortly after Chris Cornell performed a concert Wednesday night in Detroit, she said; he was found around midnight Thursday.

How is cause of death mistaken? Is distinguishing hanging from an overdose that difficult, or what am I missing?

I figured this thread wasn't closed yet because it was waiting for my opinion on this matter.

Ativan is weak, I'm not buying that at all.

To be honest, I'm not clear about the language in the stories indicating the police 'found a band around his neck' and saying he 'hanged to death'. Not sure of the mechanics there.
Guess that Ativan wasn't so strong as to stop him from doing that.

Super awful with the kids and such. Imagine this is a way to try to have them to have their father die accidentally instead of purposely leaving them...

TMZ reporting he put an exercise band through a carabiner which he wedged in between the top of the door and door frame. He obviously didn't OD, but taking more than the prescribed amount could easily put him in a hole, considering his lengthy battles with depression and anxiety.
